Common Questions
Does Laser Med Center have success with treating atypical facial pain?
Atypical facial pain is a very broad diagnosis that encompasses many different conditions responsible for facial pain or neuralgia (nerve pain). Laser Med Center has been successful in treating patients with atypical facial pain associated with Lymes Disease, Epstein Barr, and Herpes Zoster (Shingles virus). Patients presenting with trigeminal neuralgia accompanying or in conjunction with myofascial or fibromyalgia must be treated for both conditions simultaneously to achieve resolution of the trigeminal neuralgia.
What is the first step?
The first step is a consultation with one of our physicians. They are all primary care medical doctors. The physician will evaluate and write a prescription appropriate for your condition.
What is the next step to relief?
One of our coordinators will assist you with the scheduling of your treatment plan. The plan will consist of two 30 minute visits per day for 3 weeks. In extreme cases additional time may be required. The treatments are administered by a certified laser therapist. The treatments normally begin the following morning, with every effort to complete your protocol within 3 weeks.
When will I begin to experience relief?
Most patients experience reduction of pain in the first five days of treatments. This reduction progresses over the first week. It takes time for tissue to heal, the treatments continue to aide in pain relief, while stimulating the tissue to heal.
How much does it cost and will my insurance cover it?
Your exact cost can be only determined with a visit and examination by the physician. This will confirm a proper diagnosis. Some insurance companies decline coverage because it is a new treatment modality and is not coded. Health savings accounts and other providers may cover the entire costs or require a co-pay. We will provide you with a prescription, treatment protocol, receipt and other clinical data to submit with your filing process.
